A Poet's Dedication

from The Last Poem by Ephemeral Ballads

/

lyrics

The stage is set up as the curtain
starts to rise
The spotlight shines upon it
signing his demise
The play is ‘bout to start
and the lead role is saved for me

A one man show is all
that I will ever need
To repeat this comedy ‘til it
makes me bleed
The show must go on until I draw my
last deep breath

One thousand nights to pass until
the sun will rise
Memories of the light extinguished
by the dark
A rotten mental cage that keeps its
grips on me
Can’t seem to hold up anymore

Afflicted and stained by the curse of
the moon,
Its spies will stare until there is
nothing left
Buried beneath that psychotic light,
will that lay rest the flames?

I’ve sat here for far too long
wondering where to go
The guests have risen from their
seats and left the show
How long can this go on if I’ve lost
sight of my last goal?

How can I turn these feelings into
something new?
This page that’s been out too long
tells me what is true
My time has run out and there’s
nowhere left for me to go

The presence of duty,
and expectations has left me
weary in the corner
They say that the pen is mightier
than the sword, so now I’ll fight back
how I can!

Enveloped in pain,
this heart beats for you,
It’s ripped from my chest
and poured onto this page
Even now that time has gone by
How long can a candle light burn?

How can I just keep on
doing this evermore?
I’ve grown tired of the malice
that is in my head
So I’ll turn that into my last!

Afflicted and stained by
the curse of the moon,
Its spies will stare
until there is nothing left

Enveloped in pain,
this heart beats for you,
It’s ripped from my chest
and poured onto this page
Even now that time has gone by,
no longer will this candlelight burn!
